“I see chú (uncle)Nhàn as one of the early gardeners of the Viet left movement in the U.S., laying the groundwork and tending the soil for future organizers and activists to be nurtured, grow, and have a place to call their political home.” -Thuan Nguyen

For those who don’t know Nhàn (yet), he is the heart, wisdom, intellect and strength of community work for many Vietnamese folks striving for answers— answers that decolonize our minds, make us feel more whole, strategize and work for justice, and answers that remind us to love our roots, peoples, and friends.

Since I had the rare and fortunate opportunity of living in the same city as thầy (or “teacher” in English) Nhàn from 2013 to 2015, I asked friends who are progressive and left Vietnamese organizers and activists for questions/topics that they would like to ask of and learn from Nhàn. This culminated into a project entitled “Conversations with Ngô Thanh Nhàn.”
